
The Cleanest Part Of The Bar
This is the bathroom of a filthy grimy dive bar in Puerto Rico called El Ensayo, which translates to The Rehearsal. The fact that it had soap made it the cleanest part of the whole bar. Its original purpose was to serve as a spot so actors and musicians could have a cold one while workshopping and woodshedding their craft. From a lively creative space, it turned into the equivalent of a dusty attic where a revolving door of junkies and misfits could play broken arcade games amid the suffocatingly humid Caribbean air. A place to rehearse whatever doesn’t speak to the soul A place to rehearse what you wouldn’t dare to perform elsewhere. At least the drinks were always cold…
